Gathering and Sorting: Knitting Memories

On this grey Saturday, I am sorting through my knitting. A bouquet of needles and a bushel of yarn awaits pick-up. They will be used by the next generation of knitters at an after-school program.

Among the patterns I am keeping is this one. Almost twenty years ago, I made the child's sweater for my youngest daughter. I let her pick out the buttons. She chose hand-cast pewter cat buttons. A pricey, but perfect choice.

I write and illustrate stories for children and adults. My stories are about family, friendship, knitting, and community. They chronicle the large and small victories and defeats of everyday life.
